Aswani Aswath has a BA (Honours) from the National University of Singapore, with a major in English Literature and a minor in Theatre Studies. She was a Writer-in-Residence for Buds Theatre Company from 2014 to 2017. As a bilingual playwright (English and Tamil), Aswani has also worked with TheatreWorks and Ravindran Drama Group amongst others. She has also written for audio, site-specific and lecture performances, including 'Under the Five Trees’ (National Gallery Singapore) and ‘Absence Makes the Heart...' (Singapore Theatre Festival, Centre 42).

Work

Fridays are Good for Indian Daughters is an exploration of cultural codes written into female bodies and the battle for agency. An aspiring web designer with cerebral palsy finds love at a new workplace. Meanwhile, her sister contemplates life beyond her caregiver role.
